Immediate Response Flags

ATTENTION! IMMEDIATE RESPONSE REQUESTED are reserved for issues of high concern and that may result in a student’s immediate need to leave the university.   There are two flags at this level:

  • ATTENTION! IMMEDIATE RESPONSE REQUIRED: Concern related to Financial Support
  • ATTENTION! IMMEDIATE RESPONSE REQUIRED: Student Well-being

ATTENTION! IMMEDIATE RESPONSE REQUIRED: Concern related to Financial Support

This flag should be used when you would like to have UMKC Central follow up with the student regarding financial support related to housing, meals, textbook purchase, tuition, etc.  Students will not receive notification when this flag is raised. 

Recommended Timing: Anytime you become aware of a student’s situation and the need is such that it may result in the students need to leave the university.

Notification

  • MAP Manager receives email notification
  • UMKC Central receives email notification
  • NO Notification is received by the student.

Response Plan

  • UMKC Central and MAP Managers regularly monitor email and UMKC Connect for High Priority tracking items
  • UMKC Central and MAP Managers will work with the student’s Academic Advisor and AU/Dept Leadership to follow up with the students within 24 hours of notification.
  • Closed by UMKC Central or MAP Manager when issue is resolved.

ATTENTION! IMMEDIATE RESPONSE REQUIRED: Student Well-being

This flag should be used only for severe life threatening and traumatic issues that need an immediate response, including but not limited to, homelessness, significant illness or injury (including mental health), death, hospitalization, divorce, or recent law enforcement involvement. 

If student is in imminent danger (self or external), immediately contact campus police at 816-235-1515 or 911. 

When raising this flag, it is imperative that your comments provide specific details:

  • What is the student’s situation?
  • What assistance is being requested?
  • What assistance has been provided? 

Please protect students right to privacy.  Personal information and details not appropriate for Connect can be emailed directly to Keishea Boyd. If you send an email, please indicate so in the comments you include for the flag. Students will not receive notification when this flag is raised. 

Please note, items below are important but not the intended use of the ATTENTION! IMMEDIATE RESPONSE REQUIRED: Student Well-Being flag:

  • Attendance - Use ACTION REQUIRED due to Attendance Concern flag
  • Housing Scarcity - Use Referral to Basic Needs Coordinator
  • Food Scarcity - Use Referral to Kangaroo Pantry.  The pantry is open and free to all faculty, staff and students and requires no appointment or a meeting with any campus administrator
  • Utility Termination - Use Referral to Basic Needs Coordinator
  • Significant Disruptive Behavior should be reported directly to the Office of Student Conduct
  • Sexual Harassment, Sexual Misconduct, Stalking on the Basis of Sex, Domestic/Intimate Partner Violence, or Sexual Exploitation should be reported directly to the Title IX Office

Notification

  • Academic Advisor receives email notification
  • MAP Manager receives email notification
  • UMKC Care Team receives email notification
  • HELP Line receives email notification
  • ISAO receives email notification when associated with student involved
  • NO Notification is received by the student.

Response Plan

  • UMKC Care Team, Help Line, MAP Manager, Academic Advisor, Success Coach, and AU/Dept Leadership regularly monitor email and UMKC Connect for High Priority tracking items
  • Responders will work together to follow up with the students within 24 hours of notification.
  • Closed by responder when issue is resolved.
