Roo Advising provides additional support to students through Success Coaches and Coordinators.

Coaches and Coordinators offer judgement-free sessions that are tailored to support a student's needs.

Success Coaches

All undergraduate students are assigned a Success Coach, a graduate student who serves as an entrusted person where students can discuss strategies, tools and resources that will help them be successful in reaching their academic and personal goals.

Success Coaches support students by connecting them with campus resources such as tutoring and counseling, helping refine time management skills, assisting with goal setting, providing guidance with conflict resolution, being a listening ear, etc. When juggling school and life responsibilities seems overwhelming, a Success Coach is here to help!

You have the following opportunities to speak with a Success Coach:

  • Meet 1:1 with your assigned Success Coach
  • Attend Drop-In Hours to meet a Success Coach
  • Attend a Success Coach Group session

Success Coordinators

Students who are notified of being placed on Academic Recovery will be provided additional personalized support through a Student Success Coordinator.

Success Coordinators aim to empower students to develop habits that will improve their grades and put them back into Good Standing. Through regular meetings, Coordinators work with students to identify their academic obstacles. Students assigned a Success Coordinator can find them in their Connect Network. Coordinators are also available during Roo Advising’s drop-in hours.

Success Coordinators support students by:

  • Explaining UMKC’s GPA policy to students and how it relates to the student’s academic standing.
  • Monitoring student progress and provide resources throughout the semester.
  • Encouraging students to utilize the campus’ support system. Ie; Academic Support & Tutoring, Roo Wellness, Career Services and more!
  • Provide a space for students to check-in and discuss challenges while exploring opportunities that align with their academic goals.
