Traditions Challenge

An important part of attending UMKC is creating memories that will unite you with UMKC Roos all over the world. Our traditions — part of UMKC's continually evolving history — connect you to your fellow students and alumni through shared experiences.

Why Participate?

We've created the Traditions Challenge to encourage students to get involved in on- and off-campus traditions and experiences that will broaden their horizons, expose them to new ideas, introduce them to different areas of campus and Kansas City, and become more involved in campus and community life.

Dozens of amazing experiences await, and the Traditions Challenge is an excellent place to start.

How it Works

  1. Sign up for the Traditions Challenge in RooGroups
  2. Take photos of yourself while completing items on the Traditions Challenge list (PDF)
  3. Track your progress and submit photos in RooGroups
  4. Email us to let us know when you've completed the challenge

Traditions Challenge Rewards

As the saying goes, it's about the journey, not the destination. However, we do offer a couple of small rewards to help students commemorate their traditions achievements.

  • Complete 25 traditions to receive a lapel pin
  • Complete 45 traditions to receive a medallion to wear at graduation

Become a Traditions Keeper

Graduating students who complete the Traditions Challenge are invited to a celebratory ceremony each year. Friends and family will know you are a Traditions Keeper, helping keep the Roo spirit alive at UMKC!

You'll also have a great collection of photos and memories to remember your years at UMKC and all the wonderful people you met and exciting things you did.

Challenge Deadlines

  • Spring graduation: complete the challenge by March 31 in the semester you plan to graduate.
  • Fall graduation: complete the challenge by Oct. 31 in the semester you plan to graduate.
