Standards of Fraternal Excellence

Standards of Fraternal Excellence (SOFE)

In order to best contribute to the UMKC experience, Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, in conjunction with students, staff, and administrators, created the Standards of Fraternal Excellence (SOFE) in 2024. SOFE was adapted and modified from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

SOFE outline the commitments of the university, the Division of Student Affairs, the Office of Student Involvement, sorority and fraternity organizations, national and international organizations, sorority and fraternity volunteers, and student members.

FSA will provide ample support and resources in order to maintain compliance with the SOFE requirements. Sororities and fraternities are expected to reach the minimum expectations set forth by the SOFE, and the organizations recognized by FSA will be required to meet these standards. Organizations not achieving minimum expectations will work in conjunction with FSA to create plans for improvement and future success with their Chapter Coach.

The SOFE categories include Education, Administration, Academic, Civic Engagement, and Excellence.
