About Your Appointment
At Roo Wellness, we encourage you to develop personal responsibility for your health during your years at UMKC. Staying healthy will give you a competitive edge and help maximize your educational experiences — and we’re here to help.
Visit Reminder
Arrive 15 minutes prior to appointment time to complete the required forms. These forms are about your current and past medical history and are important for us to know how to provide you the best care.
Arriving for Your Visit
There is no free parking at the 5110 building. If you purchased a UMKC parking permit, park in the Oak Street parking garage spaces permitted for student parking. If you do not have a parking permit, you will need to find free parking on the streets near the clinic.
You can print and complete the Health History Form (PDF) to bring to your first appointment. This can help to make the check-in process more efficient for you.
Health and Wellness
- Check-in at the kiosk, where you will electronically sign all necessary consents.
- Provide your completed Health History Form to the front desk staff.
- After you are checked in, have a seat and wait for a registered nurse (RN) to call your name.
- The RN will escort you to the examination room, ask for basic health information, take your vital signs (weight, height, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respirations), and encourage you to have a FREE rapid HIV test.
- A nurse practitioner (NP) will come in the examination room to further assess your needs.
Counseling
- You must be a current UMKC student and reside in the states of Kansas or Missouri.
- Please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled Initial Consultation appointment in to complete the required paperwork in advance.
- You will meet with a mental health professional for approximately 25 to 30 minutes to discuss what has brought you to counseling and to determine what may be most helpful as you move forward.
- During the Initial Consultation appointment, the counselor may ask questions that do not seem directly related to your initial concern. Your answers to these questions provide important information that helps your counselor to get the “big picture” of how you are doing.
The counselor who meets with you for your initial consultation appointment may recommend joining one of our groups or a workshop series, participating in individual or relationship counseling or connecting with campus and community resources. If you pursue the recommended services here at our agency, you may or may not be matched with the mental health professional you spoke with during your initial consultation appointment.
Student Accessibility Services
If you are unable to access the programs and services our office provides at our current location because of an accessibility-related issue, please contact Student Accessibility Services at 816-235-5612 or by email. We will make arrangements to meet you via Zoom or in-person.
Cancellation
If you need to cancel your appointment, please follow the proper guidelines to avoid a $5.00 fee being charged to your student account.
