Lt. Governor Kinder signed into law on June 24, 2008, the Missouri Returning Heroes’ Education Act, which expands education benefits available to service members and veterans with active duty military service on or after Sept. 11, 2001. 

Questions about how the Missouri Returning Heroes' Education Act will affect your bill in relation to the Post 9/11 GI Bill can be directed to the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.

Eligibility Criteria for Missouri Returning Heroes Tuition Credit

  • Be a registered voter, or eligible to register to vote, in the state of Missouri and/or a current Missouri resident
  • Have served on or after Sept. 11, 2001
  • Have served in armed combat on or after Sept. 11, 2001
  • Have been discharged under honorable conditions
  • Be seeking an UMKC undergraduate or graduate degree (excluding professional programs and degrees)
  • Maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA

Apply for Missouri Returning Heroes Tuition Credit

Provide UMKC Registration and Records with a copy of your DD-214 prior to the beginning of the term you wish to use the benefit.

Provide UMKC Registration and Records with a copy of your orders into a combat zone prior to the beginning of the term you wish to use the benefit.
