UMKC Computer Usage Policy

University owned or operated computing resources are provided for use by faculty, students, staff and authorized associates of the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). All faculty, students, staff and associates are responsible for use of computing resources in an effective, efficient, ethical and lawful manner consistent with local, state, and federal laws, the UM System Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and the MOREnet Acceptable Use Policy.

Examples of conduct that violate the AUP include but are not limited to:

  • Commercial use or excessive personal use
    • Such as operating a personal business or hosting a private website on university servers
  • Sharing SSO or password
  • Mass mailing or SPAM
  • Violating copyright or licensing agreements
    • Such as the unlawful download or installation of software or illegal streaming
  • Bitcoin mining
  • Using internet access for illegal streaming or downloading
  • Non-educational use of the network for hacking, phishing or security related activities

All users including faculty, staff, students, and guest users of UMKC computer networks, equipment, or connecting resources are subject to the UM System Acceptable Use Policy.
