We have a number of scholarship opportunities for LGBTQIA+ students, including our Empowerment Fund, created to support students who experience loss of financial support from their family after coming out.

College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) LGBTQIA+ Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a currently enrolled, full-time, undergraduate student. Applicants must maintain at least a cumulative 2.0 GPA and demonstrate support of the LGBTQIA+ community, either on campus or off campus, through significant support, engagement or volunteering.

Emergency Grant

The LGBTQIA+ Emergency Grant is designed to provide students with financial assistance in cases of emergencies. This fund is designed to help students who have suffered personal property loss, emergency medical needs and other unforeseen emergency expenses.

Empowerment Fund

This scholarship provides support for LGBTQIA+ students who are experiencing financial difficulty due to loss of support from family. The LGBTQIA+ scholarship program believes that LGBTQIA+ students should be supported in harnessing and commanding their own extraordinary power.

LGBTQIA+ Leadership Scholarship

This scholarship supports all students, regardless of gender or sexual diversity, who are or will be enrolled in any degree program at UMKC. The scholarship seeks to award students who have demonstrated leadership and involvement toward the advancement of LGBTQIA+ equity and inclusion at UMKC or in their community.

McDowd-Filion Love Wins Fund

The McDowd-Filion Love Wins Fund supports LGBTQIA+ and allied students who are or will be enrolled full time in any graduate degree program at UMKC, are in good academic standing and are working to promote inclusion, equity and social justice — either formally such as through research or coursework or informally through community-based work.
