Radiation Safety

The Radiation Safety Division responds to issues involving the use, storage, delivery, and disposal of all radioactive materials used at UMKC.

UMKC possesses a limited scope license issued by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to the Curators. This license allows UMKC to receive, possess, use, and transfer certain radioactive materials (RAM). X-Ray machines are currently regulated by the State of Missouri.

Campus activities are managed through the issuance of RAM and X-Ray permits to qualified individuals. The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) monitors the use of RAM and X-Rays to ensure they are being handled and stored safely.

The RSO works closely with the Radiation Safety Committee to develop policies and procedures for regulatory compliance.
