In light of COVID-19, and to protect you, your family, our staff and current students, UMKC will be offering New Student Orientation as an online experience this summer.

Although we will be interacting virtually, you will still get all the information you need to be ready for your transition to UMKC this fall.

How it works

Instead of attending an all-day Orientation session, you will complete three parts to Virtual Orientation.

  1. Complete the Pre-Orientation Module, which will be sent to you after you have registered for Orientation. This module must be completed at least two days prior to your orientation date.
  2. Participate on your Orientation date virtually. We will send you Zoom links for your Orientation Leader session and Academic Advising session the day before your scheduled Orientation.
  3. Schedule your 1:1 Invest in You session with a Financial Aid counselor. After enrolling in classes on your Orientation date, you will meet with a Financial Aid counselor to review your tuition costs, financial aid and any scholarships you may have received. You will receive an email the day after your Orientation date to schedule this session. Sessions must be completed within one week of your Orientation date.

Once you’ve completed these three parts to Orientation, you’ll be ready to join the UMKC community this fall!

Who should participate

This Virtual Orientation process is required for new freshmen and transfer students with 24 credit hours or less. Transfer students with more than 24 credit hours are still strongly encouraged to participate.
