You may apply for grants to cover expenses related to your undergraduate research and creative projects.

What Grants Are Available to Students?

Students Engaged in the Arts and Research (SEARCH) and Summer Undergraduate Research Opportunity (SUROP) grants are available for student-led, faculty-mentored research, scholarly, and creative projects.

  • SEARCH provides up to $1,250 in reimbursable research expenses undertaken during the academic year. For the 2023-2024 Academic Year, applications are due at 5:00 p.m. on September 15.
  • SUROP provides students with a $2,000 tuition grant and up to $1,250 in reimbursable research expenses for projects undertaken during the summer. For the 2024 Summer Term, applications are due at 5:00 p.m. on March 1.

How to Apply for a Student Grant

To apply for a SUROP or SEARCH grant, first review the complete grant application guidelines. You will need the following information to complete the online application:

  • Project Narrative that addresses your project description, methods, time schedule, student background, importance to the student, and budget (save as PDF)
  • Project Area (select from those described in the application guidelines)
  • Faculty mentor’s email address
  • Department chair or division head’s email address (faculty mentor’s department)
  • IACUC, IBC, IRB, RSC, or HIPAA approval (for projects that require compliance committee reviewenter protocol number)
  • Technology Consultation for funding requests for hardware or software (save as PDF)

Deadlines

September 15 for SEARCH

SEARCH Grant applications for the 2023-2024 Academic Year must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023.

March 1 for SUROP

SUROP Grant applications for the 2024 Summer Term will open in January 2024 and must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit materials at least 48 hours before the deadline to allow faculty mentors time to upload a recommendation letter and department chairs/division heads to endorse the application before it is reviewed by the Undergraduate Research Advisory Board. Once you submit your application, it cannot be revised.
