Memberships

UMKC Campus Recreation at the Swinney Center Memberships include access to the 25-yard swimming pool, sauna and steam rooms, updated fitness center with cardio and weight equipment, multipurpose studios, indoor track, outdoor track, racquetball courts, multipurpose courts, recreational field and locker rooms. The Swinney Center provides all members with daily lock and towel service. Sports equipment is available for check out at no additional cost from our Service Center.

All members and daily guests must be over the age of 18. If purchased online, government-issued identification with date of birth will be required when picking up a membership ID card or for use of a day pass.

1 Day Guest Passes are $10/day.

How to Redeem a Day Pass

  • Purchase your day pass the same day you plan to utilize the pass
  • Visit the Member Portal
  • Log In to your Account. If you do not have an account you will need to create a new account.
  • Go to Memberships
  • Select 1 Day Guest Pass
  • Complete purchase
  • Purchase the Day Pass prior to visiting the facility on the day  you wish to redeem

When you visit the facility, you are REQUIRED to have a government issued ID that includes your date of birth to show to the Welcome Desk attendant. All guest must be over the age of 18. You will provide them your name and let them know you are redeeming a 1 Day Guest Pass. 

Guest Passes are good for 1 calendar day. Guests may come and go during facility hours. 

This membership is available for UMKC students currently enrolled in classes who pay the university fee
  • FREE – included in student fees
  • Students can verify their fee has been paid in Pathway

Membership Dates: Students enrolled during the Fall 2022 semester will have access from August 19 - January 13.

This membership option is available to UMKC students who are taking non-fee bearing credits.
  • Current fee is $35 per Fall and Spring semester and $17 for the Summer semester. 
  • Part-Time or Online students may not be automatically assessed the fee. Instead, students can purchase the membership online at https://campusrec.umkc.edu

UMKC Recent Graduate status applies to individuals who have graduated from UMKC in the last 12 months.
  • Rate: $25/month
  • This rate is a one-time use for first membership purchase in the UMKC Recent Graduate Status. Subsequent purchases will be assessed at the Community Member rate. 
  • Must have GRADUATED from UMKC, not just attended, in the last 12 months.

This membership option is for UMKC payroll-compensated faculty and staff

Payroll Deduction

  • Rate: $20/month
  • Must purchase in person at the Membership Office. See facility hours for hours of operation.
  • Faculty/Staff Member is responsible for canceling their payroll deduct and membership. The membership will be ongoing until the faculty/staff member cancels the membership.
  • To cancel your payroll deduction membership, you must complete the payroll cancellation form by the deadlines listed below.
    • Employees paid bi-weekly must complete the form by the last day in the pay period.
    • Employees paid monthly must complete the form 72 hours prior to the payroll change forms deadline.

This membership is for individuals not affiliated with UMKC. It includes alumni, constituents, lecturers, and continuing education faculty.

    • Parking passes will be ready for pickup in the Membership Office within 24 business hrs of purchase (72 hrs. if purchased over the weekend).

About Your Membership

UMKC and Campus Recreation are pleased to have you become part of the university family and a member of this wellness facility. Remember that this is your center, so enjoy it as often as possible. Seasonal and holiday changes in facility operating hours will occur occasionally. Signage will be posted notifying members of these changes in advance. Occasionally, the Swinney Center will be closed or partially closed for selected university-sponsored activities such as commencement, intercollegiate athletics events, campus recreation uses or maintenance.

Physical education classes, intercollegiate athletics, intramural and campus recreation activities are held in Swinney Center at various times throughout the day. Space availability is always subject to change. Campus Rec will always update their website and social media with building operation changes and closings.

Please consult your physician regarding your ability and preparedness to participate in the various activities offered. The University assumes that users of the center have verified their health/fitness with their personal physicians and that they assume their own risk in participating.

There is no free parking at UMKC, day or night. Please visit Parking and Transportation to learn more about parking on campus and download the campus map to view spaces. Community Members may purchase a parking pass with their membership if desired.

Daily lock and towel service includes a lock and key for personal use, as well as a clean towel. These are issued at no charge to all members and guests of Swinney Center. We do not allow personal locks to be used in our locker rooms.

Additional equipment that can be rented for daily use includes:

  • Badminton Birdies, Nets, and Racquets
  • Daily Rental Locks
  • Footballs
  • Futsal
  • Men and Women Basketballs
  • Racquetball Racquets and Balls
  • Soccer Balls
  • Volleyballs
  • Daily Towels

Cancellation of an individual membership will be allowed only under special circumstances. There will be no cancellation privileges with student memberships. Refunds for memberships will only be granted for one of the following reasons:

  • Employment from UMKC is terminated. Verification will be made with Human Resources.       
  • Medical emergencies that inhibit members from utilizing Swinney Center. Written documentation is required from a physician.

 

 

Rules and Regulations


  • All personal trainers must be employed by UMKC and Campus Recreation. No outside trainers are allowed.
  • Access to the Durwood recreational field and outdoor track must take place at the Welcome Desk. Individuals who enter by jumping the fence are in violation of the Swinney Standard of Conduct and are subject to a suspension or ban from Swinney Center.  
  • Smoking or other use of tobacco products is not permitted.
  • To help keep the center clean, and for your safety, glass containers, food and beverages are not allowed beyond the Welcome Center. A vending machine is available in the entrance lobby.
  • Bicycle racks are provided outside the center; no bicycles are allowed in the building.
  • UMKC will not be responsible for items that are lost or stolen.
  • Lost and found items can be claimed or turned in at the Service Center.
  • Postings on the bulletin boards in the center must be approved by the Office of Student Involvement, Student Union 320.
  • No spitting, except in proper receptacles.
  • No pets are allowed in Swinney Center or inside Stanley H. Durwood Soccer Stadium & Recreational Field or outdoor track.
  • You can listen to your own music if you use headphones.
  • Please report suspicious individuals loitering or wandering through the Swinney Center to the Welcome Center.

Campus Rec Facilities and Durwood Field

  • Proper workout attire always required. A top, shorts or pants, and shoes are required. Refer to recommended dress code for further suggestions.
  • Athletic footwear required. Clean, non-marking, close-toed, closed heel shoes are required in activity spaces.

Recommended Dress Code

To help prevent the transmission of viruses and infections and to protect fitness equipment, we highly encourage compliance with our recommended dress code: 

  • Wear clothing that provides sufficient coverage to avoid direct skin contact with mats, benches, and other equipment to minimize the risk of contamination or infection.
  • Shirts covering the entirety of the midsection around the body from the area directly below the pectoral muscles to the waistline. 

Campus Rec Aquatic Center

  • Wear clean swim attire that is specifically designed for swimming. 
  • Wearing any non-swim attire such as bras, underwear/boxers, socks, cotton items, or jeans are prohibited in these areas. 
  • Swim attire must not be transparent. 
  • No shoes other than water shoes or water shockers are permitted in the pools or steam room and sauna.

  • Individuals contracting for membership in the Swinney Center assume an obligation to conduct themselves in a manner compatible with the University's function as an educational institution. Please review the UM System Standard of Conduct (200.101).
  • Conduct that may jeopardize an individual's membership in Swinney Center:
  • Forgery, alteration, or misuse of membership records or identification, or knowingly furnishing false information to Swinney Center.
  • Obstruction or disruption of teaching, University administration, or other university activities, including its public service functions or other authorized activities at Swinney Center.
  • Physical abuse that threatens or endangers the health or safety of any person.
  • Theft of or damage to property of the University or activity that endangers the health or safety of any person.
  • Unauthorized entry to or use of the Swinney Center.
  • Use, possession or distribution of narcotics or dangerous drugs, except as expressly permitted by law.
  • Disorderly, lewd, indecent, obscene or other inappropriate conduct or expression.
  • Failure to comply with directions of University officials acting in the performance of their duties.

If you observe any behavior outside of these guidelines please inform a Campus Recreation student or professional staff member. 

Campus Recreation reserves the right to revoke or terminate the membership if the member fails to abide by Swinney Center rules or act in accordance with the University Standard of Conduct. Removal of membership is at the discretion of the Director of Campus Recreation. Appeals will be reviewed by the Campus Recreation Advisory Board.

  • A daily guest pass must be purchased online or at the Welcome Desk. Guests must be 18 years of age or older and show government issued identification with date of birth listed. 
  • Check activity area availability before purchasing a guest pass. You can view facility calendars here
  • Guest passes are issued for one day only and should be purchased on the same day of use. If a guest(s) want to leave the center for the part of the day they will be able to regain admission to the center.
  • Daily guest passes are not transferable.
