Parent, Family, and Supporter Council FAQ

The UMKC Parent, Family, and Supporter Council serves UMKC as ambassadors to new and returning students and their families. There are opportunities to volunteer at events for prospective and current students, serve as a mentor to new or returning families, and most importantly, have a voice in the implementation of new and innovative ways of engaging parents and families. Parents, families, and supporters are powerful advocates and referral agents for students and we value your feedback.

Our council meeting schedule varies from year to year, and depends on how active council members want to be. Typically, the time commitment is and hour or less per month.

For the 2024-2025 Academic year, council meetings will be held on the fourth (4th)Thursday of each month, from 7:00pm-8:00pm CST. To request the Zoom link, please complete the interest form.

Yes! We know parents, families, and supporters have a different and invaluable perspective on student life. We want to hear your ideas!

At UMKC, family means much more than who we are directly related to. We know that our students have vast, unique support systems and welcome all who directly support their student to join.

We ask that all supporters in the council are connected to a currently enrolled student. If your student is admitted, oriented (has attended orientation), and enrolled in courses for the coming semester but has yet to begin, go ahead and complete an interest form and look out for a welcome email at the beginning of the semester.

We often remind students: you get out of an opportunity what you put in. The UMKC Parent, Family, and Supporter Council is a place for discussion, advocacy, and support for UMKC and those we serve. We know parents, families, and supporters care deeply about our institution and, through this council, we are providing space for constructive, progress-centered conversation.

Once you complete an interest form, you can expect to receive an email to the address listed on the form, welcoming you to the council. If you do not receive this, or another communication regarding the council within one week, please email families@umkc.edu.
