Convocation marks the start of your academic journey at UMKC. This special tradition acts as the official welcoming ceremony for new and transfer students where they learn about university traditions, listen to welcoming words from the university chancellor, and participate in the UMKC pinning ceremony — one of our favorite and longest-standing traditions. Students also receive a unique UMKC t-shirt, specific to your incoming class. All incoming students should plan to attend Convocation. 

When: Saturday August 23, 2025 @ 1:00 P.M. 

Where: Swinney Recreation Center

Student T-shirt pickup: Wednesday, August 20 - Saturday, August 23 - Check back in August 2025 for specific times.

Faculty/Staff T-shirt purchasing and pickup: T-shirts will be available for purchase in late Spring 2025 and can be picked up by office/department Wednesday, August 20 - Friday, August 22.
