Emergency Resources

In an emergency or crisis, UMKC aims to be a lifeline for its students in need. The resources below are available to help students navigate unexpected financial challenges.

Campus Resources

  • Basic Needs — Support for students navigating emergency resources, including housing assistance, food assistance and other institutional state and federal programs.
  • Kangaroo Food Pantry at Dr. Raj Bala Agrawal Care Center — Provides food and hygiene items free of charge. This pantry is available to all UMKC students, staff and faculty.
  • Emergency aid — The UMKC Student Emergency Fund supports students that have exhausted federal and state aid and have an urgent need for assistance. Short-term Emergency Loans are also available to students that need help covering unexpected expenses.
  • Employment services — UMKC Career Services helps students prepare and apply for internships and jobs.

Community Resources

  • United Way 2-1-1 — Provides referrals for a wide range of services including food assistance, housing assistance, legal assistance, income supports and counseling.
  • Kansas City Public Library — Community members can set up one-hour appointments with the Community Resource Team at the K.C. Public Library for support identifying and applying for emergency resources and social services.
