We’re excited to welcome you back to campus! We understand your health and safety are just as important as your academic success.

UMKC Tutoring is available online via Zoom supporting a variety of classes. Make appointments daily through Connect (Starfish) or email to umkctutoring@umkc.edu. Virtual drop-in hours available Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.; and Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. A complete list of courses supported by UMKC Tutoring will be available soon.

Writing Studio consultants can be contacted daily via Zoom. Students also can submit papers by email. Students can make virtual appointments via Connect (Starfish) or by email to writingstudio@umkc.edu. Students can drop-in via Zoom Monday 9 a.m. – 10 p.m.; Tuesday-Thursday 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; and Saturday-Sunday 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Supplemental Instruction, or SI, is available for many of the most challenging courses at UMKC in- person, online and hybrid. In-person session space will be limited; face masks and appropriate social distancing required. In the hybrid model, students unable to attend in person may participate synchronously online. Online SI will be available for all online courses, and some online courses will have an in-person SI option as well. See the complete list of courses supported by SI.

RooUp Seminars are brief video seminars on topics relevant for student success such as creating a study plan, note-taking and best practices for online courses. RooUp Seminars are accessible to students 24/7 via the RooUp Seminar Canvas page.

Campus Visits are available in both in-person and virtual formats. Prospective students must register and agree to COVID-19 visit policies for in-person visits and tours (e.g. wear a mask, maintain 6-feet social distancing, etc.), We cannot guarantee an appointment for those who walk in without a scheduled visit.

We encourage the submission of all documents electronically or by mail, though in-person appointments can be made if necessary.

  • All entrances will remain open.
  • Signage related to appropriate 6-foot physical distancing will be visible throughout the facility.

  • Common area furniture has been removed and spaced throughout the facility to accommodate appropriate 6-foot physical distancing.

  • Floors will be marked at the appropriate 6-foot physical distance in all service line queues and appointment queues.

  • Hand sanitizer stations will remain available on each level of the Center.

  • All drinking fountains in the facility will be turned off, but the bottle filling component of the units will remain available.

  • Information tabling will be permitted, with appropriate face covering and 6-foot social distancing. Sharing of materials will be suspended for the time being.

  • Meeting and activity space availability will be limited in the Fall Semester, as large spaces will be utilized for UMKC coursework. Spaces may be available in “as is” physical sets for evening and weekend programs.

  • Planned gatherings of 10 or more will follow the Roos Re-Imagine Event Policy approval procedure outlined in Roo Groups.

The Swinney Center anticipates reopening on August 21 at 8 a.m. for Rec Fee paying students, faculty and staff. Community memberships and guest passes will not be available until we are able move into full facility operations.

  • Face coverings are required when entering the facility and in spaces when not working out.

  • All students, faculty and staff will receive a temperature check prior to entering the facility and entry will be restricted to the Southeast entrance of the Swinney Center.

  • A valid student, faculty, or staff ID is required for entry into the facility. We suggest coming to the facility already dressed for your workout.

  • Creating a safe environment for all who use the facility is the top priority and you will notice spacing of fitness equipment, additional hand sanitizer stations, increased sanitation of equipment, and many areas closed.

  • Continue to visit the Campus Recreation website for the most up to date information.

 

Both career services offices are open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in both in-person and virtual formats, and outside of normal hours on request. One-on-one career coaching appointments are available via telephone or Zoom and can be scheduled through Handshake. For in-person meetings hand sanitizer will be available and face masks and appropriate social distancing will be required.

Most events, workshops, and programs will be held virtually, and for those held on campus, face masks and appropriate social distancing will be required. Career fairs will be held virtually and student pre- registration will be required. The Cashiers Office will be open for in-person business from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, beginning August 17. Before August 17, you can email or call us for help as most business can be handled remotely at your convenience. We can also support you via a Zoom virtual session. You can make payments to your student account online by check or credit card in TouchNet, by credit card at the Guest Pay site or mailing a check, cashier’s check or money order to the Cashiers Office.

The Office of Student Conduct will operate with an open door policy effective August 17, 2020. For all matters related to conduct and care for the student population, you may elect to resolve matters via email exchange, zoom or telephone call. Face masks will be required for face-to-face meetings.

Students involved in the conduct process are afforded due process and the opportunity to bring with them to all meetings an advisor/attorney and support person. For more information contact Keishea Boyd, Boydkm@umkc.edu.


• Service at all locations, both residential and retail dining, will be either pre-packaged or directly served. No self-service.

• Dining Services will provide a hybrid delivery model of modified on-premise dining and preorder take-out options in the Dining Center and retail locations. On-premise dining will be limited to 50% of capacity at all locations. • Bite+, a new application, will allow students and plan holders to place orders, complete secure payment using their dining plan or payment card information, and schedule pick-up times at all locations. Order ahead options will be available for lunch and dinner.

• All locations will move toward contactless entry and transaction. Freedom Pay at all locations currently accepts Apple Pay and Google Pay.

• Retail venues will operate on regular operating hours. Expedited menu selections will be offered in the Market Place (Baja Fresh, Chick-fil-A, Mein Bowl) for speed of service delivery.

• All Dining Services team members will wear face coverings and gloves, all high-touch surfaces will be cleaned and sanitized with greater frequency and signage will be in place to encourage appropriate physical distancing

Office hours for Student Disability Services will return to 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday starting August 17. All of our staff meet one or more of the definitions of high risk under the CDC guidelines for COVID-19. Therefore, all appointments and services will be handled remotely via Zoom. The Financial Aid and Scholarships Office is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Staff are available to assist in several formats via phone and/or email. You can also find answers at our website.

Appointments with financial aid staff are available in both in-person and virtual formats. Information on scheduling an appointment is on our Contact page. Online appointments will be held via Zoom meetings. In-person meeting space is limited to ensure appropriate space for social distancing. For in- person appointments face masks and appropriate social distancing will be required.

Things that you can do online or by email or phone with the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office include:

  • Ask general questions about the status of your financial aid

  • Submit missing documents using the Secure Document Uploader in Pathway

  • Asking questions about scholarship eligibility

  • Receive help regarding your FAFSA information

  • Assistance with what missing information and documents may be needed to complete a financial aid process

We also know many students simply need to drop off forms or documents for our office to review. If you are on campus, you can use the drop box located outside of our office. We highly encourage students to submit documents using the new Secure Document Uploader tool in Pathway. To access the tool:
  1. Login to Pathway with your UMKC Username and Password

  2. Click on Student Center

  3. In the upper, right-hand corner, click the Secure File Upload button

  4. Select the Financial Aid Office in the Office/Department drop-down

  5. Select the Document Type you are uploading

  6. Enter any Comments/Notes you’d like the Financial Aid Office to know

  7. Click Add Attachment

  8. Locate the file on your device

  9. Click Upload

A confirmation email will be sent once your document has been received.

Roo Wellness hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday beginning August 17. Students are encouraged to wear face masks for all in-person appointments. All students will be pre-screened for COVID-19 symptoms upon arrival. Any student responding “Yes” to a screening question will be provided a mask and taken directly to an assigned exam room. If a student tests COVID positive we will follow University protocol for notifications and cleaning. No guests or companions will be allowed with students during in-person visits unless deemed necessary for communication purposes or if a patient’s mental health requires a personal chaperone. Student Health will offer Zoom HIPPA visits for Missouri residents whenever possible.

Chairs in the patient waiting area will be reduced and set 6 feet apart. Handouts will be reduced and placed in holders and removed from tabletops. For more information, contact 816.235.6133.


  • The Kangaroo Pantry will be open from 1:30-5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and 1-5 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the semester.

  • Face coverings are required.

  • Walk-in use of the pantry is available during open hours or you can email kangaroopantry@umkc.edu to make other arrangements for pick-ups.

  • Meet with a librarian to get help with research, and learn how to use the library resources online, anytime, anywhere:

  • The Miller Nichols Library and Health Sciences Library are scheduled to be open during all times when campus is holding in-person classes, with a goal to keep the libraries open safely and to avoid virus-related closures. View hours for each library location. 
  • The Health Sciences Library is open to UMKC users with access to the School of Medicine Building.
  • LaBudde Special CollectionsMarr Sound Archives and University Archives are open by appointment.
  • Guidelines for using the library buildings in fall 2020:
    • Wear your mask, and keep it on in the library except when actively eating or drinking.
    • Respect others by maintaining 6 feet of physical distance.
    • Choose your work space in the library and stay there to do your work.
    • Leave the furniture in place, as computers and work spaces are arranged for 6-foot physical distancing.
    • Plan to use the library for individual work.
    • Follow posted instructions for spaces, technology, and guidelines in the library. 
  • Updates on library spaces and services are always posted to COVID-19 and the Libraries.

The Multicultural Student Affairs Office will be open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday effective August 17. Pandemic risk-reduction measures include one-way doors, Plexiglas barriers, face mask requirement, social distancing marks, available hand sanitizer, and enhanced cleaning of items and spaces. Seating within the MSA Lounge has been modified to enable proper physical distancing with a maximum capacity of 5 guests. There will be a strict sign-in policy. In-person services will be limited. There will be only one student allowed at the computer desk at a time and printing will no longer be available.

Zoom or phone appointments or email contacts with MSA staff are encouraged, but in-person appointments are available, with distancing and mask requirements. All meeting appointments can be made either by phone at 816-235-1109 or in-person at MSA’s front desk, Student Union 319.

The office is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, offering in-person and remote services via Zoom. Seating within the office has been modified for physical distancing. The majority of appointments will be conducted via HIPAA-compatible Zoom; in-person appointments will be staggered so that no more than 2-3 students are in the waiting area at one time. Counselors will use private individual offices for in- person appointments. Everyone is required to wear a mask at Roo Wellness unless otherwise approved.

Students can attend an in-person Crisis Walk- in Consultation appointment at either
10 a.m. or 2 p.m. Monday – Friday. Students can make an Initial Consultation (first-time) appointment by contacting our front desk at 816.235.1635.


The Division of Student Affairs office will be open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. effective August 17. Pandemic risk-reduction measures include one-way doors, Plexiglas barriers, face mask requirement, social distancing marks, available hand sanitizer and enhanced cleaning of items and spaces. The Office of Student Involvement will be open for all students, faculty and staff starting August 17. Office hours will remain 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. during the fall semester.

  • Face coverings are required when interacting with the Office of Student Involvement.

  • The OSI staff are available to meet students virtually by scheduling an appointment through the OSI website. Limited in-person appointments are also available.

  • Engagement and involvement activities are important aspects of the college experience. Although the necessary safety precautions may at first seem to minimize social interaction, the focus is on physically distancing rather than social distancing.

  • Student organization events, programs and activities over 10 or more will follow the Roos Re-Imagine Event Policy approval procedure outlined in Roo Groups.

  • All entrances will remain open.
  • Day and evening crews will provide continual cleaning and disinfecting.

  • Signage related to appropriate 6-foot physical distancing will be visible throughout the facility.

  • Common area furniture has been removed and spaced throughout the facility to accommodate appropriate 6-foot physical distancing.

  • Floors will be marked at the appropriate 6-foot physical distance in all service line queues and appointment queues.

  • Hand sanitizer stations will remain available on each level of the Student Union.

  • The Computer Lab, located on Level II, will deploy physical distance signage and will have a limited number of units available in order to accommodate distancing. Floor markings will be in place for appropriate 6-foot distancing while waiting for printouts or assistance.

  • Gaming checkout from the Welcome Center will be suspended during the initial phase of repopulation.

  • Locker checkout from the Welcome Center will be suspended for the time being.

  • Information tabling will be permitted, with appropriate face covering and 6-foot social distancing. Sharing of materials will be suspended for the time being.

  • Meeting and activity space availability will be limited in the Fall Semester, as large spaces will be utilized for UMKC coursework. Spaces may be available in “as is” physical sets for evening and weekend programs.

  • Planned gatherings of 10 or more will follow the Roos Re-Imagine Event Policy approval procedure outlined in Roo Groups.

  • The Roo Card Campus ID Office should be accessed for card pick-up only. A new online photo submission process is now available at Roo Card Photo Submission. Simply click a photo of yourself and upload an acceptable ID document to be submitted for review and production.

Veteran Student Support Services and the At Ease Zone will operate 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday-Friday effective August 17. Plexiglas has been placed at the front desk. Seating within the At Ease Zone has been modified to enable proper physical distancing with a maximum capacity of 11 individuals. Masks are required unless the individual is seated. Zoom or phone appointments or email contacts are encouraged, but in-person appointments will be available with a mask requirement. For more information, contact Eric Gormly, gormlyea@umkc.edu


The UMKC Women’s Center in-person office hours will be 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday – Thursday. Occupancy will be limited to two visitors at any time and visits will be limited to 15 minutes during high demand. Pandemic risk-reduction measures include Plexiglas barriers, face mask requirement, social distancing marks, available hand sanitizer, and enhanced cleaning of items and spaces. All visitors will be asked to check in at the front desk for basic health screening and to record contact information for contact tracing if necessary. The kitchen and conference rooms will be closed. The Lactation Room will remain open but must be reserved by contacting the front desk at umkc-womens-center@umkc.edu or 235-1638. Storing breast milk at the Center will not be permitted at this time.

All Women’s Center programs during the fall semester will be delivered remotely or in a no-contact way. Events will be listed on Roo Groups, on the Women’s Center website, or on our Facebook page.
