UMKC’s On-Campus Internship Program provides paid on-campus internships for students during the fall and spring semesters.

Benefits of the On-Campus Internship Program include:

  • Students increase their skills, expand their networks, and enhance their social capital through a work-based experience.

  • Campus Departments hire for the role, but the internship is funded through Career Services.

  • Students can work up to 15 hours/week for 15 weeks during the semester receiving $15.00/hr.

Campus Departments Role

All campus departments are invited to request a funded internship position for the 2024-2025 academic year. When an internship position is approved the department hires the intern and Career Services funds the position. To be considered, an Internship Job Description Form needs to be submitted. Each job description will be vetted through the on-campus internship program selection committee. Departments may ask for more than one intern.

Campus Department Request for Intern Process

  1. Department submits an intern request form.
    1. Each Intern supervisor may request up to two (2) interns
    2. Career Services will hold a supervisor orientation with each approved supervisor
    3. Approved Intern Supervisors are encouraged to attend the Part-Time, On-Campus, and Work Study Job Fair on August 21 from 11am - 1pm to recruit
    4. As this program is grant funded, we are still waiting for the MoCode to be created. We expect the MoCode to be live sometime in September. Interns can not start working until the MoCode is active.
  2. Applications will be accepted beginning August 1, 2024. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning August 12.
  3. Once departments are notified their position has been approved the internship needs to be posted in Handshake
  4. Department hires intern and completes the onboarding information form so HR can start the onboarding process. Intern can not start working until HR has them approved in the system. Intern supervisors will be informed how to approve timesheets.
