Gaither Junior Fellows Program

Gaither Fellows work as research assistants to Carnegie's senior scholars in a variety of fields, such as democracy, conflict and governance, nuclear policy, technology and international affairs, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.

Overview

Each year, through the James C. Gaither Junior Fellows Program, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace offers approximately 15 one-year fellowships to uniquely qualified graduating seniors and individuals who have graduated during the past academic year. They are selected from a pool of nominees nominated by several hundred participating universities and colleges. James C. Gaither Junior Fellows work as research assistants to Carnegie's senior scholars in a variety of fields, including Nuclear Policy, Technology and International Affairs, the Middle East, and International Security and Political Economy. 

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be eligible to work in the U.S. for up to 10-12 months from September 1 through at least June 30 following graduation (students on F-1 visas who are eligible to work in the U.S. for the full year may apply)
  • Be graduating seniors or students who have graduated during the last academic year

Anyone who has started graduate studies is ineligible for consideration (except in cases where the student has completed a joint bachelor’s/master’s degree program).

The program accepts applications only through participating universities via designated nominating officials.

Award

Positions are paid, full-time positions for 10-12 months. The anticipated salary is $4,000 per month before taxes, paid semi-monthly. A full benefits package is also provided. Junior Fellows also receive relocation support of up to $1,500.
