Brooke Owens Fellowship

This fellowship is open to anyone who identifies as a woman or other type of gender minority and is interested in a career in any facet of the aerospace community.

Overview

Created to honor the legacy of a beloved space industry pioneer and accomplished pilot, Dawn Brooke Owens (1980-2016), the Brooke Owens Fellowship is designed to serve both as an inspiration and as a career boost to capable young women and other gender minorities who, like Brooke, aspire to explore our sky and stars, to shake up the aerospace industry, and to help their fellow people here on planet Earth. This is accomplished by matching up to forty students per year with purpose-driven, paid internships at leading aerospace companies and organizations with senior- and executive-level mentors.

Eligibility

  • U.S. citizenship is not required (but lack of citizenship may lower odds of acceptance)
  • Anyone who a) identifies as a woman or another type of gender minority, b) is currently pursuing a bachelor's or associate's degree as of October 2023, and c) is interested in a career in any facet of the aerospace community is eligible to apply
  • You can be enrolled at any college, university, or community college
  • You can be pursuing your second bachelor's degree, or you can be in a joint bachelor's + master's degree program
  • To give yourself the best odds of succeeding in your application, you should have the intention of pursuing a full-time career in the aerospace industry - but for now, you can be enrolled in any major or concentration
  • If you anticipate receiving your bachelor's degree in the time period between submitting the application and the beginning of the summer, you are still eligible to apply

Award

  • Fellows are matched by industry leaders to specific intern positions at one of the most exciting organizations in aerospace, in which they will complete meaningful projects, learn valuable skills, and be paid a living wage
  • Each Fellow is also matched with two senior- or executive-level mentors who will provide tailored advice on how to make the most of the Fellowship experience and how to build a career
  • All Fellows attend an exclusive, one-of-a-kind Summit over the summer, and are forever included in the Brooke Owens Fellowship network
