The GWI relies heavily on the efforts of supportive faculty to help us promote services, better understand the writing needs of graduate students, and implement our programming. The most important thing faculty can do to support the GWI is encourage students to utilize our services. Put a blurb about us in your syllabus (see below). Include our promotional materials in orientation packets. Forward emails about our events, and simply encourage students and advisees to utilize our services.
If you would like to partner with the GWI in other ways, you can contact Marcus Meade, the Graduate Writing Specialist, at marcusmeade@umkc.edu. He would be happy to collaborate with any graduate faculty to help support graduate writing. He's happy to come speak at faculty meetings, prepare in-class writing workshops, or brainstorm ideas for different types of partnerships.
The Graduate Writing Initiative (GWI) supports graduate-level writing across campus by providing resources and programs for graduate writers and their faculty. Each semester, the GWI offers workshops, writing events, and writing groups to help graduate students reach their goals and address writing-related concerns. The GWI also provides one-on-one consultation for writing projects and helps students formulate long-term writing plans and strategies. To learn more about the GWI, visit the GWI website or email Graduate Writing Specialist Marcus Meade at marcusmeade@umkc.edu.
