Scholarship Overview
The Academic Support Incentive Scholarship is designed to recognize and reward students who actively engage in academic support services to enhance their learning and success. This $1,500 scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate a commitment to their academic growth by utilizing available support resources through UMKC’s department of Academic Support and Mentoring (ASM).
Each year, four scholarships are awarded—two per semester—to eligible students who meet the participation criteria and complete the application process.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the scholarship, students must:
- Be currently enrolled at the University of Missouri–Kansas City during the semester of application.
- Attend at least eight (8) academic support sessions throughout the 16-week term. Eligible sessions include:
- Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions
- Tutoring sessions
- Writing Studio appointments
- Maintain good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.0.
Application Process
- Log Session Attendance: Students must make appointment and verify their attendance in at least 8 academic support sessions through RooLearning+. Attendance records will be reviewed through official departmental records. Students with 3 or more “no show” appointments will not be considered for the scholarship.
- Complete the Online Application:
The application will include:
- List of attended academic support sessions (verified by staff through RooLearning+ records)
- Personal statement (300–500 words) addressing:
- How participation in academic support services has impacted their learning experience.
- How the scholarship will support their academic and professional goals.
- Review and Selection: A selection committee will review applications based on engagement, impact, and the strength of the personal statement. Scholarship recipients will be notified before the end of the semester.
Award Distribution
- Two scholarships will be awarded per semester (Fall and Spring).
- Recipients will receive a $1,500 scholarship applied to their student account.
