As an academic advisor at UMKC I strive to promote success both inside and out of the classroom on or off campus. I aim to build a safe, challenging, and supportive environment for my advisees so that I can help them to grow as scholars and people. I offer resources and knowledge from my own personal experiences to aid my advisees to achieve their personal, academic, social, and career goals. I also work closely with my colleagues to assist each other in helping our collective advisees since this practice will maximize the number of ideas and potential help that I can bring to my meetings with students who need help the most.
The thing that I value most about my role as an academic advisor is getting to know my students. I believe one of the most important parts of my role as an advisor is to understand and connect to my students so that they feel I am an ally on their journey to academic and personal success during their time as a student at UMKC.
