Policy Statement
UMKC complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which governs the release of student academic records. Student academic records are considered confidential between the student and the university, and will not be released to a third party without the written consent of the student except as provided within FERPA and UMKC policy.
Certain information about students is considered directory information and directory information may be released to anyone without a student’s signed written consent unless the student submits a written request to restrict release of directory information. All students will be listed by name with address, email and telephone number in a student directory which may be in electronic format. If release of information is restricted, a student’s name and related information will be excluded from the student directory. Directory information restrictions may take up to 15 working days to process after the request is submitted by the student. All students’ names will be printed in the commencement program regardless of the directory information restriction.

This policy was developed to support student academic success and to provide consistent, quality delivery of academic programs and services.
