Policy Statement
The doctoral student must take and pass the doctoral comprehensive examination and advance to candidacy within five years from the beginning of doctoral coursework. After the establishment of degree candidacy, a maximum of five years will be allowed for completion of degree requirements. Failure to complete the work within the five years will necessitate re-evaluation of the entire program and may result in a notice of termination. In compelling circumstances and on the written recommendation of the student’s program, the dean of the School of Graduate Studies may grant a one-year extension. Some academic units may impose more stringent time requirements.Reason for Policy
