Kansas City Chiefs
Teaming Up to Help Students
In 2023, UMKC became the official higher education partner of the reigning Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs, kicking off a five-year partnership designed to give UMKC students access to unparalleled learning experiences, mentorships and exclusive opportunities to go behind the scenes.
A Big Win for Our Scholars
As part of this partnership, UMKC students gain access to a host of exclusive opportunities with a world-champion organization.
Chiefs Kingdom Spirit Scholarship
This scholarship awards $1,500 to select UMKC undergraduate students who are from the Kansas City metropolitan area or Missouri who meet minimum GPA requirements and have a high or medium need. Learn more about the scholarship and previous awardees.
Job shadowing, internships and fellowships
Hundreds of people contribute to the success of an organization like the Chiefs. Through job shadowing, internships and fellowships, our students have the chance to learn from these professionals and get a feel for daily life inside the kingdom's keep.
Leadership lunches and stadium tours
You don't get to the top without great leadership, and thanks to this partnership, our students have the chance to network with and gain insight from leaders in different areas of the Chiefs organization during intimate leadership lunches. As an added bonus, they take part in stadium tours, learning about the history of the organization and its owners, the Hunt family.
Chiefs Opportunity Fund
After completing the application process, this program awards select students with funds to cover costs related to internships, study abroad opportunities and career-relevant development experiences.
Celebrating Our Partnership on Campus
As our partnership continues to grow, we're adding new events that extend beyond the study body. Explore our most recent events that are open to the entire UMKC community — students, faculty and staff — and stay tuned for more.
Red Friday Roos Tailgate
It isn't Chiefs football without a Chiefs tailgate, which is why we host an annual Red Friday Roos Tailgate featuring our favorite mascots, KC Wolf and KC Roo, live music, food, games and moral support from Chiefs Cheer and the Kansas City Athletics Dance Team.
Campus speaking events
As part of this partnership, we host campus talks given by speakers from inside the Chiefs organization as they communicate their unique perspectives and experiences that stem from working with a championship-level organization.
A Special Team
This partnership between two successful Kansas City institutions is creating wins. Listen to UMKC students and Chiefs leaders talk about their unique experiences.
Two Rings, One Unforgettable Experience
Meghan Jaben, an IPh.D. student at UMKC, worked with the Arrowhead Art Collection through an internship with the Department of History, combining two of her passions — sports and art — and earning two Super Bowl rings in the process.
