By Makini L. King, Ph.D., she/her/hers, Assistant Vice Chancellor of the Division of Diversity and Inclusion
The Division of Diversity and Inclusion would like to extend a (very warm) fall welcome to all the students, faculty, staff, and community members who make UMKC’s campus such an amazing place. The Fall season is the perfect time to pause and take note of where we are; to reflect on the past and embrace the transition to a new space and time. As we embark on this new beginning together, remember that UMKC strives to create an environment of belonging, community, and inclusion.
This fall, keep your eyes out for important programming from the Division of Diversity and Inclusion. This October we will hold our inaugural Social Justice Month; a month-long series of events and programs that focus on the important issues in social justice at both the local and national levels. The month is in collaboration with our university partners. Please check our website for events.
We also welcome UMKC’s new Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion. Dr. J. Camille Hall comes from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville where she served as Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion in the College of Social Work. Her vision is that “all members of the UMKC community can bring their authentic selves to campus…” We look forward to the expertise she is sure to offer our university.
As always, please visit our site to stay up to date on all the amazing programs and initiatives we offer throughout the year. We wish you all a bright new beginning.
