Zach joined the staff in Spring 2022. In his role, he works to create opportunities for students to create and connect to community, to learn more about shared LGBTQIA+ history, advocates for students’ needs, and works towards community wellness.
Zach graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and a Master of Arts in English Literature from Wichita State University and is currently working on a PhD. His research and academic work focuses on contemporary LGBTQIA literature and queer theory, and his current interests include uncovering joy and community through the literature of the AIDS crisis. Prior to joining the team at UMKC, he worked at The Center for Sexuality & Gender Diversity at the University of Kansas and taught LGBTQIA literature courses at Wichita State University and composition/rhetoric at the University of Kansas. Outside of work, Zach loves finding new places for great iced coffee, settling into an LGBTQ archive, and the wide array of drag performances across the Kansas City area.
