UMKC Community-Engaged Learning offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional students transformative learning in a community-based context. Through service, UMKC students support the vital work nonprofits and schools do each day in our metropolitan region. This service will help students understand the immediate impact of what they are learning in the classroom. Through academic learning and reflection, students begin to ask deeper questions about why issues such as food insecurity, unsafe communities, and substandard housing persist. Some students begin to understand the necessity of upstream innovation to mitigate the day-to-day challenges experienced by so many in the United States and globally.
Beginning Fall 2021, AmeriCorps VISTA members will support community-engaged learning at UMKC.
