We Are Your Home Team

We are Kansas City's college team. Here are just a few of the reasons we love being the Kansas City Roos.

Kansas City's only Division I team

Our 12 sports teams have brought home more than 30 Division I championships since we started competing at the NCAA Division I level in 1987.

Four '23-'24 Summit League Coaches of the Year

The Summit League named four UMKC coaches Coach of the Year for the 2023-24 season: Jess Smith, women’s soccer; Christi Posey, volleyball; Marvin Menzies, men’s basketball; and J.W. VanDenBorn, men’s golf.

150+ UMKC student-athletes on honor roll

When the Summit League announced its 2023-24 Academic Honor Roll, 154 UMKC student-athletes made the list, including eight who were named to the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence and earned the honor with distinction.

UMKC Roos men's soccer huddle together on the field after historic season

Historic Season for UMKC Men's Soccer

The 2024 men's soccer team made history by advancing to the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 for the first time in the history of the organization. As a result of the unprecedented season, 12 players were named to All-Summit League teams, including Elie Kisoka as Offensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year and head coach Ryan Pore was named Coach of the Year, for the second time in his career.

Meet Our Athletic Director

In addition to setting new standards for student athletes — 95% graduation success rate and a minimum 3.35 GPA for all student-athletes — athletic director Brandon Martin launched the Roo Athletic Fund and secured multi-year partnerships to increase brand awareness for UMKC athletics and provide responsible name, image and likeness opportunities for student-athletes.

In the ever-changing landscape of college athletics, it is imperative that Kansas City Athletics remains at the vanguard of innovation and value-added partnerships.
